The national multi-subject test (NMT) is the entrance exam for bachelor’s programmes in Ukraine. In 2026 it covered four subjects: Ukrainian language, mathematics, History of Ukraine and one of your choice. English is one of the optional subjects.
The test runs on a single day in two stages of 120 minutes. The first covers Ukrainian language and mathematics, the second History of Ukraine and your chosen subject. You divide the time inside a stage yourself: you can switch between the subjects and return to questions, but not once the stage has ended. The official list of components is published by the Ukrainian Centre for Educational Quality Assessment.
The block holds 32 questions in six tasks of three types:

The quickest way to feel that split for yourself is our mock NMT English test: a full timed variant with a score straight after you finish and an explanation for every question. The test items are in English; the surrounding interface is in Ukrainian.
The ZNO foreign language exam is no longer held. Since 2022 bachelor’s admission has gone through the NMT, and a foreign language has been one of its optional subjects since 2023. Most preparation material online is still the older kind, so candidates often revise for a test they will not sit.

Older ZNO workbooks and practice tests are still useful for reading, vocabulary and grammar, because the content of both tests comes from the same foreign languages syllabus. The listening and writing exercises in them, however, are now dead weight: the NMT has neither, and hours spent on essays will not lift the score.
The second change matters more. The ZNO allowed about two and a half minutes per task; the NMT allows under two. The content stays within the school syllabus, while speed has to be built separately.
Each question is worth 0 or 1 mark, out of 32 in total. You see your score as soon as you finish the NMT, and the admission formula uses the result converted to a 100–200 scale.
The level benchmark for the block is B1–B2. If you are already close to B1, the work is mostly about format and pace, which usually means a few months of regular lessons. From a lower level, the basics come first and it takes longer. The diagnostic will show the exact timeline.
Candidates who have left the country sit the test at temporary examination centres abroad: in 2026 they operated in more than 30 countries. Registration usually runs in spring, main sessions from the second half of May to late June and additional ones in July. Next year’s subject list and dates have not been confirmed yet; the schedule is published on testportal.gov.ua.
The NMT is taken to enter a bachelor’s programme after school, the EVI to enter a master’s programme. The format and the tasks differ, so the preparation programmes are not interchangeable: if your bachelor’s degree is already behind you, see EVI English preparation.
