How long you need depends on your English, the band you need and the time you have for practice. After a level check we will suggest a pace and tell you honestly whether your chosen date is realistic.
IELTS assesses four skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The full test takes roughly 2 hours 45 minutes.
Each part is scored from 0 to 9, and the overall score is the average of the four, rounded to the nearest half band.
At test centres IELTS is taken on computer, and in some countries you can handwrite the Writing (Writing on Paper). In some countries IELTS Academic can also be taken online from home. Not every university accepts that result, and it does not count at all for immigration or professional registration.
Your Writing band is based on four criteria: how fully you answer the task, how coherent your text is, your vocabulary and your grammar. These are what we check in your work. Task 2 counts twice as much as Task 1, so the essay gets the most time.
In Task 2 we teach you to state a position, choose arguments and support them with examples.
